Basketball Recap: Winfield Has No Trouble Against Marion County

Winfield's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Marion County Red Raiders as the Winfield Pirates made off with a 68-46 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Pirates have posted against the Red Raiders since January 17, 2022.

Despite the loss, Marion County had strong showings from Philip Wilson, who posted 12 points along with six assists and six rebounds, and Tye Madison, who went 6 of 12 en route to 14 points and eight boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Samuel Taylor, who had nine points.

Winfield's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 14-11. As for Marion County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-12.

Winfield and Marion County could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings. Winfield will challenge Florence at 7:30 p.m. on January 28th down 166 places (178 vs. 12). Winfield is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. Meanwhile, Marion County (ranked 308th) will meet Jasper (ranked 47th) at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
