Baseball Recap: Middleburg Comes Up Short

Friday just wasn't the day for Middleburg's offense. They fell just short of the Palatka Panthers by a score of 1-0 on Friday. The match marked the first time this year in which the Broncos were not able to get on the board.

Logan Wehrmeyer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

Middleburg's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-3. That patch can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Palatka, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Middleburg will welcome University Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. University Christian's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Middleburg's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Palatka, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Williston at 7:00 p.m.
