Softball Recap: South Bend Riley Has No Trouble Against Michigan City

South Bend Riley had lost three games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 5-6 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. Everything went their way against the Michigan City Wolves as they made off with a 17-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won five matchups by 11 runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on CHLOE WHITMER, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March of 2024. KALIA PERSON was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two RBI.

South Bend Riley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

As for Michigan City, their loss was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-10. That's two games in a row now that they have lost by exactly 16 runs.

On Michigan City's side, they saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ann Sawyer, who went 1-for-2 with one run. A'Zealiah Turner also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Bend Riley will venture away from home to challenge Argos at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Dragons have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. As for Michigan City, they are taking a road trip to face off against Marquette Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
