Softball Recap: Solon Comets vs. Hudson Explorers
It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Solon ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Hudson Explorers 8-7. The Comets' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Kassidy Samuelraj and Grace Gerhard made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Samuelraj tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Meanwhile, Gerhard struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). Those hits were Samuelraj's first of the season. At the plate, Samuelraj scored a run while going 4-for-5, while Gerhard scored three runs and stole two bases while going 5-for-5. Those four hits gave Samuelraj a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ali Palsa was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Izzy Shima, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases.
Solon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Solon's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Hudson, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Solon will challenge Brunswick at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hudson, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on North Royalton at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bears will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Explorers surely won't give up without a fight.
