Baseball Recap: Lucy Beckham's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Lucy Beckham was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Goose Creek on Tuesday. The Bengals' pitcher stepped up to hand the Gators a 14-0 shutout. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Bengals as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Hunter Doyle tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He is becoming a predictor of Lucy Beckham's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1 (and 3-7 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Hank Aeppli was a standout: he got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Kingston Kolb, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.

Lucy Beckham always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 6-8. As for Goose Creek, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-8-2.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Lucy Beckham beat the Gators by a score of 12-2 on Wednesday.
