Basketball Game Preview: Mountain View Mountain Lions vs. Casa Grande Cougars

The Mountain View Mountain Lions will challenge the Casa Grande Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Mountain View's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matchups.

Last Wednesday, Mountain View didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Gila Ridge, but they still walked away with a 57-51 win. Given the Mountain Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 121st, while the Hawks are ranked 262nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Isaiah Romero continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 11 for 20 en route to 34 points. That makes it five consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Mountain View's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Reidhead, who posted nine points and four steals.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Casa Grande). They took their contest on Wednesday with ease, bagging a 77-46 victory over Sunnyside. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 31 points or more this season.

Casa Grande is also on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for Mountain View, they now have a winning record of 8-7.

Mountain View beat Casa Grande 75-64 when the teams last played back in February of 2022. Does Mountain View have another victory up their sleeve, or will Casa Grande turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
