Volleyball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Ava Ruffle and Luciana Smith Lead Johnstown-Monroe to Victory

Johnstown-Monroe proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by three) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Northridge Vikings 3-2. This was a revenge game for the Johnnies: when they faced off against the Vikings back in September, they had to take a 3-2 defeat.

Johnstown-Monroe wouldn't go down easily and took Northridge into a fifth set where they got it done with a seven-point win. The final score came out to 25-15, 13-25, 15-25, 25-16, 15-8.

Johnstown-Monroe was led to victory by Luciana Smith and Ava Ruffle. Smith had 29 digs and three aces, while Ruffle had 11 digs and five aces. What's more, Smith racked up seven assists, the most she's had since back in August.

They weren't the only good servers: Johnstown-Monroe was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 13 aces. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northridge only served seven.

Johnstown-Monroe has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. As for Northridge, their loss dropped their record down to 13-5.

Johnstown-Monroe didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 defeat against Newark Catholic on the 7th. As for Northridge, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Lakewood on the 7th.
