Basketball Recap: Spokane Comes Up Short

Spokane was the 53-45 winner over Marionville when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Spokane Owls were beaten by the Marionville Comets 76-33 on Monday. While losing is never fun, the Owls can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 457th, while the Comets are ranked 89th).

Marionville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Avery Eden led the charge by going 6 of 8 on her way to 13 points along with six assists and four steals. The dominant performance gave Eden a new career-high in assists. Another player making a difference was Anna Bright, who posted 17 points and three steals.

Spokane dropped their record down to 2-12 with the loss, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Marionville, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Spokane has already played their next contest (against Pleasant Hope), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Marionville has also has no score uploaded for their next game, this one against Sarcoxie.
