Baseball Recap: Aquinas Academy's Luck Changes for the Better on Monday

Aquinas Academy came into Monday's match having lost eight straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They blew past the St. Joseph Spartans 15-7 on Monday. The Crusaders not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since March 27th (when they won 12-2).

Jack Stanton was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up four earned runs off three hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. He has become a key player for Aquinas Academy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 0-9 otherwise.

In other batting news, Brendan Roney and Jonah Burchill did most of the damage at the plate: Roney got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Burchill went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave Burchill a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Giovanni Spotts, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

Aquinas Academy's win bumped their record up to 3-9. As for St. Joseph, they dropped their record down to 2-11 with the loss, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.

Aquinas Academy will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Spartans: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
