Basketball Recap: Hammond Morton Piles Up the Points Against South Bend Riley

Hammond Morton saw some tournament action on Friday. Couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up 2024 than the 72-29 stomp they got against the South Bend Riley Wildcats. The Governors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 20 points or more this season.

Hammond Morton found their leader in sophomore Kylah KP Patterson, who dropped a double-double on 46 points and ten boards. Patterson is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last 36 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of De?Zyrra Willingham, who went 5 of 6 on her way to 11 points and five rebounds.

When it comes to explaining why South Bend Riley lost, don't look at Lafaye Gibson. Despite the final result, she posted five points.

Hammond Morton is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.1 points per game. As for South Bend Riley, they moved to 7-6 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Hammond Morton didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 70-38 victory against Gary West Side on the 27th. As for South Bend Riley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 59-48 win against Hammond Bishop Noll on the 28th.
