Football Game Preview: Burke Catholic vs. Whitney Point Eagles

Burke Catholic are taking a road trip to square off against the Whitney Point Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Burke Catholic will be strutting in after a victory while Whitney Point will be coming in after a defeat.

Burke Catholic is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took down Spackenkill 33-14 on Saturday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Burke Catholic relied on the efforts of Marco Langley, who picked up 91 receiving yards and two TDs, and Lucas Rodriguez-Lopez, who threw for 198 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Langley has become a key player for Burke Catholic: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two receiving touchdowns, but 1-3 otherwise.

Burke Catholic didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Joe Cuebas. Burke Catholic received some extra help from Langley, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Meanwhile, Whitney Point was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a blow against Chenango Forks, falling 43-14. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 420th, while the Blue Devils are ranked 23rd).

Whitney Point's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Burke Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.
