The Mattoon Greenwave will head out on the road to take on the Tolono Unity Rockets at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Mattoon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.

Monticello hit Mattoon with a four-run third inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Greenwave took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sages.

Mattoon saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madden Johnson, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Another was Kael Alexander, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, Tolono Unity unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of Monticello by a score of 4-3.

Mattoon's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-5. As for Tolono Unity, their loss dropped their record down to 9-6.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Mattoon has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Tolono Unity struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Mattoon couldn't quite finish off Tolono Unity in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 and fell 9-7. Can the Greenwave avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
