Football Recap: Lawrence-Nelson Falls Short of Howells-Dodge in the Playoffs

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Lawrence-Nelson couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They lost 30-8 to the Howells-Dodge Jaguars on Friday. The Raiders were red-hot offensively heading into the contest (they scored no less than 31 points in the four matchups prior), but the Jaguars' defense proved too tough.

When it comes to explaining why Lawrence-Nelson lost, don't look at Wyatt Frey. Despite the final result, he rushed for 160 yards, and also threw for 79 yards and one touchdown. Frey was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 52 yards.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Oliver Belina and Hunter Luther. Belina gained 142 total yards and two touchdowns while Luther rushed for 149 yards and a pair of TDs. Luther is also crushing it when it comes to rushing touchdowns: he's punched in at least two every time he's taken the field this season.

The loss snapped Lawrence-Nelson's winning streak at nine games and leaves them with a 9-2 record. As for Howells-Dodge, the win keeps them at an undefeated 11-0.

Lawrence-Nelson does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Howells-Dodge, they will face off against St. Mary's on Friday. The Jaguars will need to watch out since the Cardinals have now posted at least 31 points in their last ten games.
