Recap: Wekiva Mustangs vs. Blanche Ely Tigers
It was a good run, but the Wekiva Mustangs unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell to Blanche Ely 45-40. While losing is never fun, Wekiva can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 107th, while Blanche Ely is ranked eighth).
Despite the loss, Wekiva still got an impressive performance from Tierra Coleman, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds. The match was Coleman's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jasmine Pooler, who scored 12 points.
Even though they lost, Wekiva were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Wekiva's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-5. As for Blanche Ely, they pushed their record up to 9-3 with that win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season.
Wekiva will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against North Laurel at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Blanche Ely won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Winter Haven at 6:00 p.m. on December 29th.
