Basketball Recap: Geovanni Casteel's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Santaluces over Park Vista

Santaluces was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 68-53 bruising from the Park Vista Cobras. While losing is never fun, the Chiefs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 473rd, while the Cobras are ranked 81st).

Santaluces lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Geovanni Casteel, who posted ten points and seven boards. Trent Nixon was another key player, putting up 14 points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Santaluces smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Park Vista's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jackson Perry, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 20 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave Perry a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Solomon Leinbock, who went 8 for 13 en route to 20 points and seven boards.

Santaluces' defeat dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Park Vista, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.

Santaluces has already played their next match, a 58-45 victory against Trinity Christian Academy on the 24th. As for Park Vista, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 76-59 win against Atlantic on the 24th.
