Football Recap: Hilton Head Christian Academy Comes Up Short

Hilton Head Christian Academy played a tough match on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 51-28 to the Bethesda Academy Blazers. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Eagles came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 122nd in South Carolina, while the Blazers are ranked 281st in Georgia).

When it comes to explaining why Hilton Head Christian Academy lost, don't look at Reid McCollum. Despite the final result, he threw for 395 yards and one TD, and also punched in two rushing scores. 168 of McCollum's passing yards were hauled in by Joseph Houpt.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bethesda Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jordan Cheever, who rushed for 234 yards and one score while picking up 9.4 yards per carry, and also picked up 65 receiving yards and one touchdown. Those 234 rushing yards gave Cheever a new career-high. Ralo Wesley was another key player, gaining 136 total yards and four touchdowns.

Hilton Head Christian Academy now has a losing record of 1-2.

Coincidentally, Hilton Head Christian Academy and Bethesda Academy will both be playing John Paul II the next time they take the field. The Blazers will head out to face the Golden Warrriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Eagles will host them at 7:30 p.m. on the 12th.
