Basketball Game Preview: Douglass Bulldogs vs. Marion Warriors

The Douglass Bulldogs will be taking part in a tournament against the Marion Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Douglass took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They secured a 63-59 W over Goessel. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Bulldogs as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Douglass found their leader in freshman Brody Rush, who went 8 for 14 on his way to 24 points. Another player making a difference was Kemper Cox, who posted 11 points in addition to six assists and three steals.

Meanwhile, Marion posted their biggest victory since January 18, 2024 on Tuesday. They blew past Herington 61-29. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Warriors.

Marion found their leader in sophomore Jackson Howard, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 boards. Those 15 rebounds set a new season-high mark for Howard. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Krause, who went 6 of 12 en route to 15 points and three steals.

Marion smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Marion picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 4-6. As for Douglass, their victory bumped their record up to 4-7.

Douglass was dealt a bruising 55-22 loss at the hands of Marion in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Marion's Luke Wessel, who went 5 for 11 on his way to 14 points and four steals.
