Volleyball Recap: Mt. Vernon Marauders vs. Westfield Shamrocks
Mt. Vernon lost to Westfield back in September of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Monday. The Mt. Vernon Marauders narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Westfield Shamrocks 3-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Marauders.
Mt. Vernon took Westfield into a fifth set where they got it done with a two-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 16-25, 25-16, 25-23, 22-25, 16-14.
Leading Mt. Vernon to victory were Makenna Thompson and Aubry Dowling. Thompson had 12 digs, while Dowling had eight digs. That high mark didn't come from nowhere: Thompson now had 11 or more in the last three games she's played dating back to last season.
Despite the defeat, Westfield saw an underclassman step up: Emily Blevins had 11 digs and 25 assists.
