Football Game Preview: Starkville Yellowjackets vs. Brandon Bulldogs

The Starkville Yellowjackets will venture away from home to square off against the Brandon Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Starkville will be strutting in after a win while Brandon will be coming in after a defeat.

Starkville is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Mississippi's top teams: Louisville, who was ranked eighth at the time (Starkville was ranked fourth). The Yellowjackets were the clear victors by a 36-16 margin over the Wildcats on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Yellowjackets have posted against the Wildcats since September 13, 2019.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Starkville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kingston Johnson, who rushed for 42 yards and a pair of TDs, and also threw for 121 yards and one touchdown.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 47-15, which was the final score in Brandon's tilt against Clay-Chalkville on Friday.

The win made it two in a row for Starkville and bumps their season record up to 3-1. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.0 points over those games. As for Brandon, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 2-2.

Starkville strolled past Brandon in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 by a score of 48-32. Will the Yellowjackets repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
