Baseball Game Preview: Dallas Academy Bulldogs vs. St. Paul's Prep Lions

Dallas Academy hasn't had much luck against St. Paul's Prep recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Bulldogs will head out to face off against the Lions at 4:00 p.m.

Dallas Academy is headed into Monday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their tenth straight game dating back to last season on Thursday. They fell 6-3 to Trinity Christian Academy.

Josh Maki put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 14 batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off only two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for St. Paul's Prep, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They came out on top against Harvest Christian Academy by a score of 4-1 last Thursday.

Like Dallas Academy, St. Paul's Prep also got a great game from a two-way player: Mateo Talavera. He struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Talavera was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. He has become a key player for St. Paul's Prep: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-3 otherwise.

Talavera wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lukas DiBenedetto, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

St. Paul's Prep pushed their record up to 6-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Dallas Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.

Dallas Academy suffered a grim 22-3 defeat to St. Paul's Prep when the teams last played back in March. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
