Volleyball Game Preview: Stagg Chargers vs. Shepard Astros

Stagg is 2-8 against Shepard since August of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Chargers will venture away from home to challenge the Astros at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Stagg turned things around against Bradley-Bourbonnais on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the Boilermakers 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Chargers have posted since October 4th.

If you add up the scores from across all three sets (72-67) Stagg actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 16-25, 26-24.

Stagg found their leader in sophomore Elaina Yasin, who had eight digs and four aces. Those four aces set a new season-high mark for Yasin.

Meanwhile, Shepard was able to grind out a solid victory over Blue Island Eisenhower on Tuesday, taking the game 2-0.

The 2-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Shepard was: they took both sets by at least ten points. The match finished with set scores of 25-15, 25-12.

Stagg's win bumped their record up to 16-14. As for Shepard, their victory bumped their record up to 23-9.

Stagg came out on top in a nail-biter against Shepard in their previous matchup back in August, sneaking past 2-1. Will the Chargers repeat their success, or do the Astros have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
