Preview: Riverdale Cowboys vs. Liberty Hawks
Riverdale is 0-1 against Liberty since October of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Riverdale Cowboys will be playing at home against the Liberty Hawks at 7:30 p.m.
Last Friday, Riverdale suffered a tough 41-19 loss at the hands of Fowler.
Despite the loss, Riverdale had strong showings from Emmanuel Bojorquez, who picked up 109 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and Xaidyn Camacho, who threw for 180 yards and three touchdowns. Bojorquez's longest reception was for an incredible 79 yards.
Meanwhile, Liberty had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They blew past Parlier 55-0 on the road. The result was nothing new for Liberty, who have now won three matches by 27 points or more so far this season.
Liberty haved a senior duo take command as Caleb Sisco rushed for 144 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries and Noah Bonilla threw for 139 yards and four touchdowns on only nine passes. Talan Lamattina was another key contributor, rushing for 65 yards and a touchdown.
Riverdale's defeat was their sixth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 2-6. Liberty has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.
Riverdale was dealt a bruising 56-21 loss at the hands of Liberty in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Riverdale, Vince Oberti (who rushed for 143 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
