Baseball Recap: Chester Triumphs

Chester took on New Athens in a bug-themed battle on Wednesday. The Yellowjackets came out on top against the Yellow Jackets by a score of 6-3. That's more bragging rights for the Yellowjackets, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Trey McCartney tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits.

At the plate, Brenden Malley was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Trayton Peters, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.

The win made it two in a row for Chester and bumps their season record up to 5-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for New Athens, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-6.

Looking ahead, Chester will host Sparta at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Yellowjackets are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for New Athens, they will head out on the road to challenge Dupo at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets will also cruise into their next game with the timing on their side: the Tigers will have lost ten straight heading into Thursday's contest.
