Basketball Game Preview: Southern Nash Firebirds vs. Hunt Warriors

Southern Nash and Hunt are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Southern Nash Firebirds will be taking part in a tournament against the Hunt Warriors at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Last Friday, Southern Nash ended up a good deal behind Roanoke Rapids and lost 59-45. The Firebirds have struggled against the Yellowjackets recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Meanwhile, the stars were shining brightly for Hunt in a 65-51 victory over Smithfield-Selma on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Warriors.

Southern Nash better focus on containing Tyler Pridgen and Austin Joyner as the pair were huge in Hunt's win. Pridgen went 7 of 10 on his way to 14 points and five assists, while Joyner went 6 of 14 on his way to 16 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. Joyner has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of AJ Hampton, who went 5 for 8 on his way to 11 points.

Southern Nash's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Hunt, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.

Southern Nash came up short against Hunt in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 68-59. Can Southern Nash avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
