Basketball Recap: East Chapel Hill Comes Up Short

East Chapel Hill lost against Jordan back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The East Chapel Hill Wildcats were dealt a 64-19 defeat at the hands of the Jordan Falcons. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 412th, while the Falcons are ranked 146th).

East Chapel Hill's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Lauren Steiner, who posted ten points and six boards, and Alana Burroughs, who scored eight points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. Steiner is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played.

Even though they lost, East Chapel Hill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Jordan's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Olivia Yancey, who went 11 for 21 on her way to 22 points. Valerie-ange Batta was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 15 points and nine boards.

East Chapel Hill's defeat dropped their record down to 7-15. As for Jordan, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-6.

The future could be bright for both East Chapel Hill and Jordan: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. East Chapel Hill will try to hand Riverside-Durham their fourth-straight loss when the two meet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Similarly, Jordan will look to extend Northern Durham's 14-game losing streak when the meet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
