Softball Recap: Becton Takes a Loss

Becton had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 9-9-1 to make it four. They lost 10-3 to the Hasbrouck Heights Aviators. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Aviators this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-0 back in April.

Francesca Buda was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and six unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 3-for-3.

Buda wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nina Buda, who went 2-for-4 with one run.

As for Hasbrouck Heights, their record is now 19-5. Considering they have won 14 matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

On Hasbrouck Heights' side, Maddy Connelly spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, Giuliana Terranova and Mackenzie Riordan did most of the damage at the plate: Terranova went 3-for-5 with four RBI and one run, while Riordan went 2-for-5 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI Terranova has posted since back in April. Aaliyah Cleffi was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Becton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Hasbrouck Heights, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 7-5 victory against Wood-Ridge on the 21st.
