Basketball Recap: Roanoke Catholic Drops Season-High Score on Roanoke Valley Christian

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Roanoke Catholic). They blew past the Roanoke Valley Christian EAGLES, posting a 90-45 win. The Celtics have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 25 points or more this season.

Leading Roanoke Catholic to victory were Jayden Johnson and Demarcus Brown. Johnson went 8 for 16 on his way to 25 points, while Brown went 8 of 13 from beyond the arc en route to 25 points and three steals. Johnson's morning made it 12 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Yajae Hairston, who posted six points along with six boards and five assists.

Roanoke Catholic was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Roanoke Valley Christian only racked up eight assists.

Roanoke Valley Christian lost on Saturday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Logan Gutierrez, who went 9 of 16 en route to 20 points and six rebounds. That was a full 44.4% of Roanoke Valley Christian's points, marking the seventh time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Mioduszewski, who went 6 for 9 on his way to 12 points and seven boards.

Roanoke Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.5 points per game. As for Roanoke Valley Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-6.

Roanoke Catholic will square off against New Covenant at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. New Covenant has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
