Basketball Recap: Manitou Springs Falls Despite Big Games from Brooklynn Sheffield and Nolan Barrett

Manitou Springs lost against Ellicott back in January of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Manitou Springs Mustangs took a 44-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Ellicott Thunderhawks.

Despite the defeat, Manitou Springs had strong showings from Nolan Barrett, who posted 12 points and three steals, and Brooklynn Sheffield, who earned eight points in addition to seven rebounds and seven steals. Barrett has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Lexi Sobral also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Manitou Springs' loss dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Ellicott, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Manitou Springs will host The Vanguard School at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Ellicott, they will take on Banning Lewis Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
