Baseball Recap: Edgewood Triumphs

Edgewood barely beat Pomona the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Lions' pitcher stepped up to hand the Red Devils an 11-0 shutout on Wednesday. The win continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Red Devils: they've now won eight in a row.

Raymond Tafolla made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Edgewood is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-6 otherwise. Tafolla was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Ricky Bocanegra and Noah Ramirez did most of the damage at the plate: Bocanegra went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs, while Ramirez went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs Ramirez has posted since back in March of 2025. Another player making a difference was Vincent Mancilla, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Edgewood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pomona only posted an OBP of .133.

Edgewood's victory bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Pomona, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 3-8-1.

Looking ahead, Edgewood will look to defend their home field on Friday against La Puente at 3:30 p.m. As for Pomona, they will face off against Ganesha at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Giants will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
