Ray and Tuloso-Midway are an even 3-3 against one another since October of 2016, but not for long. The Ray Texans will head out to take on the Tuloso-Midway Warriors & Cherokees at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
Ray can't be to happy about their upcoming road matchup considering what happened when they opened their season on the away from home on Friday. They took a 21-13 hit to the loss column at the hands of Nixon.
Despite the loss, Ray got top-tier performance from Truman Thompson, who picked up 114 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Even if they lost, Ray's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Ruben Cavazos. He didn't just play on offense: he also picked up three sacks and made five total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Tuloso-Midway gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 28-14 victory over Corpus Christi Moody. The score was all tied up 7-7 at the break, but the Warriors & Cherokees were the (much) better team in the second half.
Damian Figueroa was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 221 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.9 yards per carry. Tuloso-Midway also got a significant boost from Braycen Beazell, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 85 yards.
Tuloso-Midway was moving up and down the field and finished the game with 412 total yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Corpus Christi Moody only gained 250.
Tuloso-Midway wouldn't let Corpus Christi Moody keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force three fumbles. It was truly a group effort as Ricky Hernandez, Aaron Berglund, and Shawn Burdick Jr. picked up one apiece. Berglund's also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, forcing a fumble and making four total tackles.
Ray was taken down by Tuloso-Midway 36-9 in their previous matchup back in September of 2023. Can Ray avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
