Basketball Recap: Triniti Crouse's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Palm Beach Central over Mater Lakes Academy

If Palm Beach Central was riding high fresh off their 49-19 takedown of Chaminade-Madonna last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Palm Beach Central Broncos took a hard 70-53 fall against the Mater Lakes Academy Bears on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Broncos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 302nd, while the Bears are ranked 57th).

Palm Beach Central's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Triniti Crouse, who posted 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Izabelle Vilmont, who put up 12 points.

Mater Lakes Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Vanessa Vancott, who went 12 of 27 on her way to 31 points and five rebounds. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Vancott has scored at least a third of Mater Lakes Academy's points. Alessandra Wandembergh was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 12 points and nine steals.

Palm Beach Central's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Mater Lakes Academy, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-3.

Palm Beach Central wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 50-48 defeat against Santaluces on the 30th. As for Mater Lakes Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 63-59 loss against Bishop O'Connell on the 30th.
