Baseball Game Preview: Rivera Raiders vs. Lopez Lobos

The Rivera Raiders are taking a road trip to face off against the Lopez Lobos at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rivera's pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so Lopez's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Rivera barely beat Edcouch-Elsa the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Raiders put the hurt on the Yellowjackets with a sharp 12-1 victory on Friday. The game marked the Raiders' most dominant win of the season.

Gilbert Cantu made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Cantu was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Andres Rocha, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jesus Sanchez, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Rivera always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Edcouch-Elsa only posted an OBP of .318.

Meanwhile, Lopez was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 5-1 to Donna North, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Lobos fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Chiefs since Friday.

Rivera is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4-1 record this season. As for Lopez, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9-1.
