Softball Recap: Philomath Victorious

Philomath made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Marshfield, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Warriors never let the Pirates get on the board and left with a 6-0 victory on Friday. Considering the Warriors have won three matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Hailey Smith was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. Smith was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Smith wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Haley King, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Kaylie Kohler also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

The win got Philomath back to even at 3-3. As for Marshfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.

Coming up, Philomath will venture away from home to take on Molalla at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Marshfield, they will welcome Brookings-Harbor at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
