Softball Recap: East Union's Win on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Five

East Union got themselves on the board against Argonaut on Saturday, but Argonaut never followed suit. They blew past the Mustangs 8-0. The result was nothing new for the Lancers, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.

Mikayla Simpson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Leah Altstadt was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Caliyah Lopez, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

The win (which was East Union's fifth in a row) raised their record to 14-12. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Argonaut, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 16-5.

Coming up, East Union will head out on the road to challenge Sierra at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lancers are facing the Timberwolves at the right time seeing as the Timberwolves are stuck on a 13-game losing streak. As for Argonaut, they will host Bradshaw Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
