Baseball Game Preview: Northwood Rangers vs. St. Mary Central Catholic Panthers

The Northwood Rangers will head out to challenge the St. Mary Central Catholic Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Northwood has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since April 28.

Saturday just wasn't the day for Northwood's offense. They lost 9-0 to Hilltop on Saturday.

Northwood saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabe Hicks, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, St. Mary Central Catholic gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against Old Fort as they made off with an 11-1 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.

Toby Gibson spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Blake Finneran, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Lawrence, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

St. Mary Central Catholic's record now sits at 13-10. As for Northwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-19.

Everything went Northwood's way against St. Mary Central Catholic when the teams last played back in March of 2015, as Northwood made off with an 11-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rangers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
