Baseball Game Preview: Sandburg Eagles vs. Homewood-Flossmoor Vikings

The Sandburg Eagles will venture away from home to square off against the Homewood-Flossmoor Vikings at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Sandburg has four straight wins, Homewood-Flossmoor has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Sandburg barely beat Montini Catholic the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Eagles' pitchers stepped up to hand the Broncos a 6-0 shutout on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Homewood-Flossmoor didn't have quite enough to beat Lincoln-Way Central on Wednesday and fell 5-4.

Sandburg's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-8. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Homewood-Flossmoor, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-16.

Sandburg skirted past Homewood-Flossmoor 3-2 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
