Softball Recap: Sussex Tech Takes a Loss

Sussex Tech had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-5 to make it six. They came up short against the Cape Henlopen Vikings, falling 11-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Ravens have suffered since April 16, 2024.

As for Cape Henlopen, the victory keeps they at an undefeated 10-0. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by seven runs or more this season.

For Cape Henlopen's part, Abby Marsh made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Marsh has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Ava Calciano and Hayden Hudson did most of the damage at the plate: Calciano went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Hudson went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Alivia Heers was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Coming up, Sussex Tech is taking a road trip to square off against Red Lion Christian Academy at 12:00 p.m. on the 26th. As for Cape Henlopen, they will challenge Woodbridge at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Vikings 1.8, the Raiders 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
