Softball Recap: Carlinville's Victory on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Carlinville came tearing into Wednesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Greenfield/Northwestern Tigers. Considering the Cavaliers have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Hallie Gibson made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hannah Gibson, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabella Tiburzi, who went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.

Carlinville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .561. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greenfield/Northwestern only posted an OBP of .348.

Carlinville's victory bumped their record up to 16-9. As for Greenfield/Northwestern, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-15-1 record this season.

Carlinville wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 4-2 win against Pleasant Hill on the 17th. As for Greenfield/Northwestern, they have also already played their next matchup, a 6-2 victory against New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly on the 15th.
