After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Gorham, Thornton Academy was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They came out on top against the Westbrook Blue Blazes by a score of 15-10. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Blue Blazes recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Sophia Bogardus made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Bogardus was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Theresa Eng and Emma Barnes did most of the damage at the plate: Eng went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Barnes got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That home run marked the first that Eng has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Madison Tripp, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Thornton Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westbrook only posted a batting average of .214.
Thornton Academy's victory bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Westbrook, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-3.
