Softball Game Preview: Roybal Titans vs. Contreras Cobras

The Roybal Titans will venture away from home to challenge the Contreras Cobras at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Roybal's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last five contests.

While Roybal's win against Hollywood wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Titans sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 14-13 victory over the Sheiks on Monday.

Meanwhile, Contreras never let their opponents score on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 23-0 margin over Belmont. The Cobras might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by nine runs or more this season.

Joselyn Carrasco and Dahila Canul did most of the damage at the plate: Carrasco got three hits, while Canul got four hits. Those four hits gave Canul a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Hazel Zamora, who got four hits.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Contreras kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 28 hits. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Contreras is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.2 runs over those games. As for Roybal, they pushed their record up to 9-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.

Roybal was able to grind out a solid win over Contreras when the teams last played back in March, winning 7-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Titans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
