Football Recap: Phillips Takes a Loss

Phillips was the 14-6 winner over Waterloo when they last played one another back in October of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Bears came up short against the Cougars on Friday, falling 28-7. The Bears have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Bentley Benefield threw for 70 yards and one TD. Trey Tidwell was his top target, picking up 35 receiving yards and one score. On the ground, Hunter Scruggs rushed for 30 yards.

Phillips' loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Waterloo, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-4.

Coming up, Phillips will challenge Addison at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs' defense has only allowed 12.4 points per game this season, so the Bears' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Waterloo, they will square off against Shoals Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars will be up against the Flame's rather soft defense (which has allowed 39.88 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
