Basketball Game Preview: Pope Greyhounds vs. Blessed Trinity Titans

The Pope Greyhounds will take on the Blessed Trinity Titans in a tournament on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Pope took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They came out on top against Sequoyah by a score of 62-49. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Greyhounds' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while the Chiefs are ranked 253rd).

Pope got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jack Kerns out in front who shot 86% from the field on his way to 12 points along with six boards and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Stanton German, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds.

Pope was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Blessed Trinity had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They came within four points of losing the streak, but they secured a 72-68 W against the Storm.

Pope's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 6-3. As for Blessed Trinity, the win got them back to even at 5-5.

Pope strolled past Blessed Trinity when the teams last played back in February of 2024 by a score of 69-52. Do the Greyhounds have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Titans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
