Baseball Recap: Mundelein Comes Up Short

Mundelein fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Stevenson on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 8-7. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Mustangs of the 5-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Baris Brua was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over 4.1 innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Tony Morano was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jake Junia, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Mundelein's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 9-3-2. As for Stevenson, they moved to 7-8 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

While Mundelein had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
