Football Recap: Ashbrook Starts Season with Win Against West Mecklenburg + How To Watch

Ashbrook took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They blew past the West Mecklenburg Hawks, posting a 35-8 victory. That's more bragging rights for the Greenwave, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Ashbrook to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aj McClain, who rushed for 71 yards and one score, and also threw for 90 yards and a pair of TDs. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 64 yards. Ashbrook also got a significant boost from Savion Lindsay, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 102 yards.

Ashbrook didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Bishop Woods, Keenan Early, and Kaiden Blackwell picked up one apiece. Woods has been hot recently, having posted at least one interception the last three times he's played. Blackwell got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Coming up, Ashbrook will face off against Berry at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for West Mecklenburg, they will challenge Statesville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
