Baseball Recap: Wood River Takes a Loss

Wood River extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 9-9 in the process. They lost 17-6 to the Minico Spartans. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wolverines of the 20-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Luke Hebert was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Wood River is 4-2 when Hebert posts two or more runs, but 5-7 otherwise.

As for Minico, the victory snapped their losing streak at five games and leaves them with a 9-12 record. That 11 run margin sets a new team best for them this season.

On Minico's side, the team relied heavily on Cody Carlson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those three runs gave Carlson a new career-high. Will Cofer was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Minico beat Wood River by a score of 12-10 later that day.
