Basketball Recap: Pottsville's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Five

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Pottsville had no problem doing just that on Friday. They walked away with a 50-43 win over the Minersville Battlin' Miners. The victory was familiar territory for the Crimson Tide, who have now won five games in a row.

Pottsville can attribute much of their success to Letrel Montone, who made all 7 shots he took to post 20 points. That's the most points Montone has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Christian Alvarez, who put up 11 points.

Minersville lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Shazier Bethea, who on his way to 15 points and six boards. He is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last six games he's played. Jordan Bowers was another key player, putting up six points and eight rebounds.

Pottsville's record is now 19-6. As for Minersville, their loss dropped their record down to 21-4.

Pottsville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Minersville will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Notre Dame-Green Pond at 6:00 p.m. on February 26th. Notre Dame-Green Pond knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Minersville likes a good challenge.
