Basketball Recap: Hendersonville Bearcats vs. Polk County Wolverines
The Hendersonville Bearcats stacked a sixth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 86-42 victory over Polk County. Given Hendersonville's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 139th, while the Wolverines are ranked 564th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hendersonville was led to victory by Cj Landrum and Malachi Simpson. Landrum dropped a double-double on 24 points and 13 rebounds, while Simpson dropped a double-double on 28 points and 14 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Landrum has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Coby Retana, who scored eight points.
Several Wolverines players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Aaron Jackson, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds. Jackson has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was Lawson Carter, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Even though they lost, Polk County were working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. This was only their tenth loss (out of 12 games) when they've passed the ball that well.
Hendersonville is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. As for Polk County, they dropped their record down to 3-16 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hendersonville will face off against the Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Chase comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Polk County, they will head out on the road to take on the Hilltoppers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
