Basketball Recap: Reed Raiders vs. Damonte Ranch Mustangs
Reed was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 52-46 heartbreaker at the hands of the Damonte Ranch Mustangs. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 77-50 back in December of 2024.
Despite the loss, Reed still got an impressive performance from Gabriel Smith, who went 7 of 9 on his way to 15 points and eight rebounds. Ford Gilliam was another key player, putting up eight points.
Damonte Ranch's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Drew Dodson, who went 8 for 16 en route to 18 points in addition to five boards and three steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which Dodson has scored at least a third of Damonte Ranch's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeriah Macias, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 13 points and five assists.
Reed's defeat dropped their record down to 6-13. As for Damonte Ranch, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season.
Reed didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 53-41 loss against Reno on the 24th. As for Damonte Ranch, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 72-45 victory against Carson on the 24th.
