Softball Recap: Arleta Mustangs vs. Kennedy Cougars

Arleta extended their losing streak to six on Friday, dropping their season record down to 9-11 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Kennedy Cougars. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Mustangs of the 10-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2021.

LEILANI GURROLA made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one triple and one run.

As for Kennedy, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games.

On Kennedy's side, Anais Perez tossed a big game, pitching 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. The dominant performance also gave Perez a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

At the plate, Kennedy's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Sarah Olague, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
