Baseball Game Preview: Seton Hall Prep Pirates vs. Livingston Lancers

Seton Hall Prep has won six straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Livingston has won six straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Wednesday. The Pirates will welcome the Lancers at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Seton Hall Prep 2.1, Livingston 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Seton Hall Prep and Old Bridge, and Old Bridge kept the tradition alive. The Pirates came up short against the Knights on Saturday, falling 9-3. The contest marked the Pirates' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Seton Hall Prep got a good showing from Marcelo Harsch, who struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. Harsch has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Seton Hall Prep saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Xavier McKnight, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run. Another was Henry Ayers, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Livingston had just enough and edged out Scotch Plains-Fanwood 2-1 on Tuesday. That's two games straight that the Lancers have won by just one run.

Livingston is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. Having lost for the first time this season, Seton Hall Prep fell to 7-1.
